2021 Home Design Trends

2020 was a year we won’t soon forget, but a few good things did happen, including spending more time at home with family. In fact we spent so much time together at home that it made many of us consider what we do — and don’t  — like about our houses. Now that we’ve all had a lot of free time to think about our houses, here are a few design trends we’re expecting for 2021. Year of the Addition Whether it’s a dedicated home office, a larger living room, a spare bedroom for your parents or a playroom for the kids, the National Remodeling Association of the Remodeling Industry is forecasting a significant increase in large-scale remodeling projects (projects that cost at least $8,500). These additions increase your home’s value, and in many cases, eventually pay for themselves when it’s time to sell your home. Outdoor Living Now that we’re trapped inside most of the time, it’s natural that we’ll want to get outside when the weather warms up  — or at least send the kids outside so we can have a few moments of quiet. It could be as simple as an outdoor deck box to fill with games and toys, or an oversized chaise for quiet time. Or maybe it’s time to finally build that attached deck, install an outdoor pizza oven, create a cozy seating area around a fire pit or build an outdoor living room complete with flat screen TVs and a bar. Whatever your backyard dream, 2021 is the year to make it happen. Fresh Coat of Paint An easy way to freshen your home is with a new coat of paint. Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2021 is actually two colors: Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, an uplifting yellow that complements the gray. Whether you choose this color story or create one of your own, freshly-painted walls might be all that is needed to lift your spirit and feel as though you’re on vacation every day. If you are looking to remodel your home and need a construction loan, you might not know where to start with financing options. Ed Currie is the number one construction loan expert in the country, and he and his team can help you explore different loans.
